Homemade Milk Gravy
Makes one cup:
3 tbls shortening or oil
3 tbls self-rising flour
1 c milk
salt (to taste)
pepper (to taste) optional
turn on burner to med high
in a skillet melt shortening ( or spoon in oil)
add flour
add salt and pepper
stir constantly browning the flour until it's the desired color you want (some like it light and some like it dark, I like it a medium brown)
Once the flour is browned add milk stiring constantly as it thickens, take off heat and serve
We serve this over biscuits. Can be served over mashed potatoes, etc.
